What Does it Take to be a Blogger?
May 7, 2007
Sledzik says you have to be “full of yourself” and “thick skinned.” Depending on the topic of your blog, these surely are necessary, but I don’t think these two aspects can be applied in a blanket-fashion to all bloggers/blogs. If you have something to say, like most writing and most situations in PR, it’s the content that matters most.
The individual writer’s creativity is something that can change, defy and rewrite the rules. The blogosphere is a prime example of this––blogging has no rules. Some bloggers write for their audience, some for themselves. Both are okay, both serve a purpose. What I am going to offer are suggestions, not absolute must-haves.
I can think of only two attributes that, in my opinion, should be present for every blogger: have something to say and believe in what you write. Your blog posts are publications representing you. You can’t always know who’s reading and won’t always get the chance to defend yourself, so let it speak for you.

Callie,
What I should have said is “I am full of myself,” but you already know that. Forgive me for stereotyping bloggers. Yours does, indeed, have a humble tone AND some great content. Keep it going. It’ll serve you and your readers well.
